Idylwild Lodge, on the upper Severn River close to the Hamlet swing bridge, began in the early 1900s on the Whiteside farm. It was served by the Champion steamer, operated by Captain Tom Woods who used the site as his home base. The resort was operated by Gordon Whiteside and his wife Pearl (Stanton) until the 1950s, and later became a housekeeping resort operated by John and Kelley Jeffreys.
